A polka-dot top: Riso MiScreen A4

After the civets I tried something really simple on the MiScreen: a few big dots on a white top.

But a dot is not a circle. I wanted soft, slightly wonky shapes, as if someone had cut them out by eye.

1. Dots from a drawing

Four irregular dots, two grey and two salmon
Every dot is a little different. The MiScreen burns the drawing straight into the screen.

2. A colour of my own

I mix the salmon shade myself until it suits the white linen.

Textile inks can be mixed, so I looked for a shade that would feel soft and warm on white fabric. The second version I printed in grey.

3. The grey one

Up close you can see the texture of the screen and where the ink went through more or less. No dot is perfectly solid, and that is exactly what I love about printing by hand.

The grey one passed the comfort test. The dog agrees.

4. The salmon one

The dots go over the sleeves and the back too.
